ARC DISASTER COMMITTEE ALERTS & INFORMATION

HURRICANE & FIRE SEASON ALERT

August 13, 2009

The ARC Disaster Committee has been placed on alert due to a tropical depression in the Atlantic Ocean. Computer models are indicating an East Coast alert with the storm possibly entering the Gulf Coast waters. This storm is looking to impact the weekend of August 22, 2009.

Concurrently there are three major fires in California, with two in rural populated areas. The most recent fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains (30 miles South West of San Jose, CA) has mandatory evacuations under way. Sometimes people are unable to get home to their animals in time or animals will break out to escape the danger and turn up in shelters days later in need of serious medical attention.

The ARC Disaster Committee is now updating volunteer lists. Volunteers are needed in the areas of transportation, shelter checks, telephone banks and foster homes. If you would like to volunteer please contact ARC Disaster Committee coordinator Carolyn Zembrodt.

Monetary donations are most welcome; money is used to health check and transport Rottweilers that have been displaced by a natural disaster. Teams of volunteers check shelters daily in the affected areas and pull out Rottweilers before they have their lives ended due to overcrowding during a disaster or even worse because they are Rottweilers and many shelters will not hold them during a disaster until their owners can locate them and take them home.

No amount is too small to give, an hour of transport or a few dollars, either way your efforts will be rewarded with the knowledge that you helped a Rottweiler in need.

Please send checks made payable to ARC to:

Lin Beenen, ARC Treasurer
975 Cumberland Ave. SE
Lowell, MI 49331-8685

All monetary donations are tax deductible and you will receive a receipt from the ARC Disaster Committee for your donation.

Disaster can strike anywhere at any time, be prepared by having a plan on how to move your family and dogs quickly should the need arise. Update microchip information and emergency contact information with neighbors and friends in case you are unable to get home to your animals.
